Vendor Space

We do not do consignment but we do do rental spaces. Most spaces run $50 to $200 per month. They require an initial 3 month commitment and Third Space receives a 10% commission on sales. Most items are acceptable for sale as long as they are non offensive, non political and legal for sale in the US.

Community Outreach

How can buying and selling help the local community?

What we can do as individuals

The concept for Third Space started online in 2013 with a desire to take a passion and make it profitable. Anne Marie took one vintage hat from her collection and placed it online. It sold three days later. With the money she earned, she then bought some more items, listed them and sold them. That money then went to buy more. The business concept was and remains as simply offering fun stuff at affordable prices. The rest is history!

Vendor Space

Rental Space runs from $50 to $200 depending on how much space you desire and what is available. There is a 3 month commitment and a 10% commission on sales. All items with the exception of those deemed by owner as political or offensive, will be accepted for sale. Third Space insures all items and makes sure they are handled with respect and care. We do our best to advertise and sell for you. We also ship! We allow you to film and do online events in shop and also offer tent space at events in the borough that we participate in. You will be paid weekly or monthly at your request and a spreadsheet report will be issued monthly. We also offer ‘off hours’ for set up and break down. We notify you of requests and trends and have a very relaxed environment where everyone works together to make it a great place to vend and buy!

Vintage, Antique and More Guide
What constitutes vintage and antique? According to industry standards, an item needs to be just 20 years old to be considered vintage. To be antique takes a bit more time. An item has to be 100 years old unless it is car. Insurance companies can make lots of money on cars that are 25 years old and honors them with Q plates. Retro however, are new items that reference a past era or are remade for modern usage. Retro is short for retrospective. Thrift simply refers to items getting a second, third or even fourth chance at generally discounted prices. They make it to a store room table or garage sale blanket instead of a disposal facility and that’s a win for the new owner and the planet. The ‘more’ reference on our sign is for everything else from new items to homemade crafts.

We get asked a lot where we get our items. Our answer? Everywhere! Some of our favorite places are other thrift stores and garage sales. Sometimes estate sales can prove fruitful and auctions are always fun! Sometimes people just give us stuff and we add it right to our food pantry shelves to help the community. But often we may be sitting on treasures right in our own homes and don’t realize it.

Do we buy items or consign?
We focus primarily on rental space instead. We might buy but we are dealers and the price we might offer would be well below market value. We always advise that you try to sell the items yourself first. If not successful, then we’ll give you our best advice. Maybe your item (s) need to be auctioned or if you have a high volume, estate sales. You can also consider a rental space. There is currently a waiting list but there is no harm in getting your name on it. You can always refuse if and when an opening is available.

Are some items worth the effort?
The short answer is no and we will tell you if one of your item falls in this category. Market saturation, outdated technology, societal trends, costs, market fluctuations, usefulness, trends, apathy and rarity all profoundly affect cost and desirability. These concerns will not change whether one has resources, a healthy large clientele, a brick and mortar or a magic wand. meaning, if it can’t be sold on Marketplace or Ebay at low costs then it is likely not something a professional is going to be more successful with. The only advantage they have is exposure and the ability to solicit more costly items to those large audiences. They can’t sell a doll or piano if the market is gutted for these items.

As for value though, key is knowing what you have. Once you know this then you can research how many are for sale and what recent sale prices are. Knowing what you have is not always easy though. With the advent of ‘Google Lens‘ , it makes all our lives a whole lot easier. But it can be just as misleading as it is helpful. Not unlike anything on the internet, current listings can be very wrong. Have you ever looked something up and found out the prices are all over the place? There are reasons for this. A lot goes into why something is priced as it is. A successful sale depends on this knowledge. This is not something you are going to get with Google lens. But…it’s a start.

Doing it yourself? Check out the listings and make sure you account for wear, size, colors, rarity, era, serial numbers, and other factors that can and will profoundly affect worth. If it is too daunting, especially with a large amount of items or ones you believe have a potentially high value, consider an assessment with us. Anne Marie is always happy to help with one or two items you bring to the counter but if you have a houseful and just don’t know what is valuable and what isn’t and what to do with it all, consider a home visit evaluation. Third Space charges $50 an hour which we consider well worth it for just the peace of mind. We can also get through a number of items in this time and help guide you to do your own research. We teach you. We will not buy your items but guide you as to how best to handle what you have. What has value, what doesn’t, what options are available and so forth. If we encounter something we don’t know or feel it requires a specific expertise, we will help you find the best resources and people for the job.

Helping the Community, Environment and More

One of the most common things we here is that customers and clients have items they know don’t have a high value but hate to toss. They hope someone somewhere can reuse or recycle them, maybe even restore them. often this involves hard to place items like old TVs, headboards, pianos and organs and large, bulky furniture pieces. Maybe someone in need can use them? Unfortunately, these items have fallen out of favor for a variety of reasons and the same concerns exist for those in need as for those who are seeking homes for the items. add to it, costs for removal and disposal. Many of the items are inheritance as well and often there exists a time period for disposal with clean out companies charging high fees and estate sellers experiencing the same struggles. Sadly there are no straightforward answers or opportunities. Some things will simply have to be tossed and tossed at cost.

For those items that can be donated and/or sold to raise money, there are many local organizations that can benefit and would greatly appreciate your generosity. Evaluations will help prevent giving away a million dollar item, unless of course you wish to and if you choose to then donate, you can be assured your items will only be tossed as a last resort. In the local Washington area, both 31 Threads and Habitat’s Hut will happily take your clothing and provide either food or home repairs to local residents. Habitat also has an ‘everything’ store for everything else. Electronics can be donated to Abilities of Northwest Jersey.
